Hafa Adai!

Welcome to the updated GTFA website. First, I would like to thank Leevin Camacho, who was our Webmaster over the last few years. Leevin volunteered his time to build our first website and managed to maintain it while keeping a busy schedule with his other endeavors. Thanks for the great job, Leevin! Effective this year, we will have Mr. Gaynell Marsh as our new Webmaster. You may be familiar with Gaynell from his sports articles in the Pacific Daily News and his volunteer work with the Guam Running Club. Be on the lookout for frequent updates.

The GTFA Board of Directors is very excited about the schedule of events we have planned for 2002. Please be sure to check out our calendar for the dates of our meets. These meets will be held on a regular basis to allow athletes to plan, train, and peak for optimum performances. We should be seeing new records set in the high school, junior, open, and masters divisions very soon because of these regularly scheduled meets.

Guam Track & Field fans will also see a newsletter to be published in February. This will be a quarterly publication with upcoming events, athletes’ profiles, Masters, High School, and Coaches’ columns, and much more. Mrs. Nancy Weare and I will be the editors for this publication. Contributors to the newsletter are always welcome. Please email your articles, photos, results, etc. to our webmaster.

I encourage all of you to read the Mission Statement of the Guam Track & Field Association. In it, you will find the reasons for our existence. Our immediate goal is to provide the foundation for athletes, coaches, and officials to reach a higher level of competence in each of their pursuits. We may or may not reach the desired level, but the most important thing is that we try.

Let’s all work together to create more excitement about our sport within our communities!

I hope to see you all on the track at our first meet in March.

Sincerely,

Fred R. Schumann

President, Guam Track & Field Association
